Battery-buffered heat pumps

If you don't already have one, adding a heat or electrical battery to your home can further reduce the running costs of a heat pump system by helping you store power for when you need it most.

It also means that at times of year when the roof isn't producing all you need, you can take advantage of cheap off-peak electricity rates instead.

The oil tank is removed as part of your installation, and is disposed of responsibly.

No. A heat pump works without one. A battery adds control over when you buy electricity, which is worth more in some homes than others. The survey is where that gets answered for yours.

Most likely, yes. A major government-backed study by the Energy Systems Catapult found no type or age of UK home unsuitable for a heat pump, as long as it’s designed and installed correctly — from Victorian terraces to 1960s flats. The main things your home needs are some outdoor space for the unit and room indoors for a hot water cylinder, and it suits owners and landlords alike. The only way to know for certain what’s right for your home is a survey.

The opposite. Panels generate most in the middle of the day, which is when a heat pump can be warming the house and filling the hot water cylinder. More of what your roof makes gets used at home instead of exported.
